A silver plate oval bar or serving tray with facing horse head handles. This super quality and very rare piece is the perfect bar tray for a cocktail shaker and group of Martini or cocktail glasses to sit. It can remain in situ, or be used to transport items.
This tray is a continuation of a pattern that was very popular with Hermès. The 'horse head', 'Tête de Cheval', series from the luxury French atelier, of which they introduced a large variety of items for the home and person. The tray itself is a simple and elegant design with the pair of detailed horse heads facing off from each other. These horse heads, as they rear forward, can be used in order to aid the carrying of the piece, if so required. They are firmly attached and solid in construction.
The tray was made by the French manufacturers Ravinet D'Enfert for Hermès. They were large scale silversmiths in France and were contracted by Hermès to make home goods for the luxury atelier during the mid 20th Century.
The piece is fully singed on the side edge of the tray, along with D'Enfert's makers mark. The quality and feel is of what has come to be expected of the brand, and the condition is excellent throughout. This is perhaps one of the most rare pieces from the 'Tête de Cheval' range, and a rare chance to acquire it. Made in France, circa 1960's.
